EN [ENA] Germany, the first flight took off from the new Berlin airport. First flight took off from the new Berlin Brandenburg airport bound for London. The Easyjet plane was bound for London-Gatwick with 64 passengers on board. There are 23 take-offs and landings in total today.

Willy Brandt Airport is located south-east of central Berlin and has incorporated the pre-existing Schönefeld airport, which has become one of the five new terminals. The other Berlin airport in operation so far, that of Tegel, in the north-west, will close by November: from then on Berlin will have only one large airport, that of Brandenburg, whose large size should facilitate the implementation of the distancing measures physical necessary to limit coronavirus infections. In fact, the airport opened in the midst of a pandemic that has drastically reduced air traffic around the world: before the start of the epidemic from Tegel and Schönefeld, one hundred thousand people passed through a day, but now no more than three thousand pass.

As the largest airline based in Berlin-Brandenburg, easyJet today inaugurated a new phase with the opening of Berlin-Brandenburg Airport "Willy Brandt". EasyJet's first aircraft, special flight EJU 3110, landed on time at 2pm at the new airport. The fuel-efficient Airbus 320neo was greeted with a traditional "water salute" in the presence of political and industrial representatives and the media. On November 1, the carrier will instead be the protagonist of another first, starting commercial operations at the airport with its own 06:45 flight to Gatwick. But that's not all. In fact, it also announced today a new collaboration between easyJet and the railway company.
